![]() With just a few swipes of your finger, or a couple of clicks of your mouse, you can easily capture any sound or import any sample – a few more swipes/clicks will transform your sound into a playable, characterful synth voice. With SampleWiz 2, BLEASS has distilled the phenomenal breadth and depth of Jordan’s expertise and experience into an intuitive synthesizer that will unleash your sonic imagination, inspiring both your musical and sound design creativity. And as if that weren’t enough feathers for one cap, Jordan is a pioneer in the use of iOS in music creation and performance, and has worked on numerous groundbreaking music apps over the last decade, for example Geoshred and Morphwiz. Jordan is also recognised as something of a savant in the world of sound design, and has collaborated over many years with synth manufacturers such as Korg, Moog and IK Multimedia. His exquisite skills as a keyboardist have graced the recordings and tours of Dream Theater, David Bowie, Liquid Tension Experiment and Rod Morgenstein to name but a few. Over a career spanning more than 40 years (and counting), Jordan Rudess has built a formidable reputation. BLEASS SampleWiz 2 combines modern features such as granular and cloud sample engines, MPE, and iOS/desktop interoperability, with the satisfying, rapid workflow of classic hardware samplers. But, for a sound effect instrument or even a simple musical instrument, this technique works perfectly.Īs you can see there's more to GarageBand than meets the eye! Go deeper into GarageBand '11 here.Sample-and-synthesis instrument with a granular engine envisioned by genius Keyboardist Jordan Rudess and engineered by BLEASS.īorn of the imagination of legendary keyboardist Jordan Rudess and the software engineering excellence of French audio developer BLEASS, SampleWiz 2 is a unique and powerful S&S (sample & synthesis) instrument. There's no velocity sensitivity (you can't play back different sounds based on how hard you press a key) and there's nothing like scripting, round robin, or other features you find in a real sampler like Kontakt. Just record the sounds in GarageBand, create a new Sound Effects software instrument as outlined above, and drag the audio files from the timeline to the musical typing window for the Sound Effects instrument.Ĭlearly, this technique is not the one to use for that thousand sample grand piano you want to create. For example, you could record some sounds of your own (guitar chords, percussion hits, hand claps, mouth noises) and use those sounds to build a custom instrument. You can use this technique for more than “sound effect” instruments. You can use the “Save Instrument” button to save your new instrument and use it in other songs. You can record a part and play it back on a software instrument track. But, when you're done, you will have a new instrument that works like any other software instrument in GarageBand. Unfortunately, you can only drag one audio file out at a time, so it's tedious work. In fact, you can assign a different audio file to every note from C-2 to F8! You can even use the “Z” and “X” keys to move up and down the musical keyboard and assign new sounds to each group of 18 keys. Assign other audio to other letters on your keyboard. That's it! Press the letter on your keyboard or the associated key on your MIDI keyboard and you will hear your audio file played back. Then, bring up the musical typing keyboard from the Window menu (or use the shortcut Shift-Command-K). Change it from the default “Grand Piano” sound to “Radio Sounds” under the “Sound Effects” category. To start with, you need to create a software instrument track. ![]() Now, when you are adding sound effects to a movie, you can play and record keys on your keyboard rather than having to drag audio files into your song. For example, you might create an instrument comprised of different types of footsteps or doorbell rings. This is an instrument where each key contains a related sound effect. But, there's an easy way to make a simple sampled instrument without resorting to a third-party tool.Ī perfect application for this is to create a “sound effect” instrument. Since GarageBand lets you use Audio Unit instruments, you can make use of samplers like Native Instruments Kontakt from within GarageBand. What it doesn't have is a sampler-a way for you to create your own instruments from audio files. Apple's GarageBand contains scores of great software instruments and hundreds of audio loops.
